Can you imagine such kind of member on eBay?!

I have sent him 5 times my invoice and no answer. The auction has finished on Thu 18th Oct 2007.And till today even no answer on my e-mail.

230 868 members on Delcampe - it is not only important to have a huge lot of members - I think the quality is better than the quantity.

Hello Bgpostcards:
There are hundreds out there like the example you quoted. This fellow makes great numbers of bids and then after the auctions decides on what purchases to make.He pays for 3 out 4 items so he is an asset to Delcampe's bottom line but a pain in the ass to the sellers who must go through the process< which has no way of succeeding > of attempting to contact these people when that fails filing for refunds and relisting items.
There seems to be a great lack of respect for the proper rules and behaviour on this auction site and I get the feeling this is not a big issue with the administration of the site as I have never seen a reply from on high to any complaint such as yours about deadbeat bidders. The rule of thumb appears to be....appease the sellers by handing back credits for abortive sales while these deadbeats go merrily on their way.
I think this is a growing problem here on this site.I do not sell much on this site about 12 items a month but over the last 16 sales I was stiffed on 12 occasions.... no correspondence and no payments.I would like to be able to reject bids from buyers with large numbers of negatve fedback but so far no system in place to do that.I would like to hear from other members as to their feelings and experiences with this issue.

I fully agree - there should be a system like on Ebay where you can regulate these things.

Also, there should be something to protect buyers - how about people who do not send the goods? Is there a way of reporting or claiming back from Delcampe?

Being a bidder in the UK and interested in French postcards, it is surprising how many French sellers do not have Paypal or Moneybookers. So I have to send them cash. This is most risky and I am not happy with it.

Plus - how long do you wait for a delivery of your purchased item? What do you do if your seller does not respond to your messages?

Is there any procedure to follow if this happens?

Your post is interesting.

I have sold the buyer you mention " Aneir " over 100 items so far on Delcampe. So far he has paid for every one.

Once I had to use the dispute process to remind him that his payment was late.

He paid that very same day.

I agree, however that a system were you could limit bidders who have only a set% positive rating as your approved bidders would be nice to use.

From my records it appears that out of the 11,000 + sales here on Delcampe in the last 18 months, 21% have been to users with less than 100% positive feedback.

The break point appears to be 94% positive feedback. Below that % and the problems with bidders rises quite a lot.

So what can one do to resolve these issues of nonpayment?

1) MAKE IT EASY FOR A NON USA BUYER TO PAY YOU!!! Sounds like a good idea, right? Hook up with Moneybookers and your non paying bidders will drop rather nicely.

2) Use the Dispute system in place on Delcampe early on in the transaction (14 Days) and report a nonpayment.

Be very sure to use nice language and short brief, easily translatable phrases in you dispute comments: EXAMPLE

Dear buyer.

You item is not yet paid for?
Do you records agree?
Please let me know.
Thank you.

3) Send a second invoice the same day you start the dispute with the same comments in the optional text box.

4) If the dispute gets you no answer ; Leave Neg feedback & Ask for your fees back from Delcampe, even on small transactions. This is the step that starts the Delcampe software tracking the bidder and ultimately will remove the bidder from the system.

Please note that it is not the overall % of the bidder that appears to be the kicker to remove them. It appears to be the more recent history that gets a user removed from Delcampe.

Your Negative feedback will help maintain accurate accounting of current dead beat bidders.

NOTE: And If you do get a retaliatory feedback, great; it will help you get that deadbeat bidder off of the system even faster. Simply use the dispute system to report "undeserved feedback" as well. It is another strike against that bidder and The bad feedback to you will get removed by Delcampe rather quickly, and the bad buyer receives the personal attention of the Delcampe Live staff (I have had to do this twice so far on Delcampe).

INFORMATION OVERVIEW

Dead Beat bidders; EBAY verses Delcampe.

I sell a great deal of items online. My two major sites to sell on are Ebay & Delcampe.

In overall history On Ebay (With 200,000+ sales) and so far on Delcampe (11,000 sales so far) I have seen the following results:

Dead Beat Bidders Overall %

Delcampe .43% Ebay .51%

Dead Beat Bidders last 12 months

Delcampe .33% Ebay .66%

Average positive rating of Deadbeat bidder

Delcampe 94% positive, Ebay 97.7% positive

Observations For me & my sales:

I.

I had a higher % of deadbeat bidders on Delcampe at the start due to three reasons. 1st: Language barriers. My payment requests/complaints were too wordy and did not translate well. & 2nd) Lack of Delcampe invoice system (It is a relatively new feature). and last 3rd) Lack of an easy integrated online payment system (Before Moneybookers and the Wallet)

II.

Ebay deadbeat bidders have a higher overall positive rating than Delcampe deadbeat bidders. The rate of Ebay dead beat bidders is rising slowing (USA economy woes?) and that on Delcampe is lowering

I would like to see a system where one could limit bidders with a set % of positive sales. I would use 94% on Delcampe.

I would also use a system like that on Ebay where one could limit bidders who have had more than "X" negative feedbacks in "X" number of months.
I would ban any member with more than 3 Negative feedbacks in the last two months from bidding on my items if I could.

Neither the Delcampe feedback system nor the Ebay feedback system are perfect.

Both will only work if their respective reporting system are actually used as designed.

For me "Aneir" was a good customer. For other sellers he was not. On Delcampe he has to have 100 positive transaction to balance out each one of his Negative feedbacks. On Ebay all he has to do is create another ID and start over with a 100% rating.

Great information, Stefano, about your results comparing the two sites; my impression/best guess would have been the opposite: E* has fewer slow/non-payers than D*--but I trust your numbers.

Aneir--a nice Spanish lady, I've learned--was a good buyer from me as well and D* made special communications with her to remind her of her obligations and with her sellers to let them know what was going on.

I'll also second the opinion that the dispute resolution system works well and D* refunds your fees when warranted.

Hi Alan,

The Ebay Vs Delcampe numbers have been surprising to me as well. I keep all of my sales data from my various sites in a Microsoft database. It is quite easy for me to keep the running ratios of all my sites and compare them to one another.

It is those ratios that made me decide to use Delcampe in a bigger way.

I am glad I did.

Today I will reach 70,000 current items on Delcampe. My Ebay store will drop to 15,000 items later in the week. When I started on Delcampe my numbers were opposite with Ebay having the bulk of my items.

Overall my monthly profit margin has raised 27%! This is mostly fueled by the great reduction in monthly fees I obtained by switching to Delcampe.

For the same amount of sales as on Ebay I pay ~300/mos in fees instead of the $4000/mos I was paying on Ebay.

The Sell through ratio on Delcampe is slightly higher (Even with only 285,00 members so far) than Ebay as well.

What is also MUCH higher are the number of repeat customers here on Delcampe. On Ebay I had 53.11% repeat customers (And still do), here on Delcampe I have 66.73% (and rising) repeat customers.

So it pays off to be nice to buyers, even with buyers who have had problems in the past.

Stefano

Hello Stefano ,

Thank you for your answer and your advices
About Aneir - I have sent my invoice 2-3 times , have sent 3-4 e-mails and even made a dispute :

Link (http)

In that dispute she promised to send the money and still no money.
My opinion is that member with 79% rating is not for Delcampe or eBay.I also doubt that on eBay can exist such kind of member. To have 0% from 112 members and neutral(which is almost negative) from 19 members is really bad thing and not a normal for auction sites .
Anyway , maybe I am not right.I do not care if Aneir will continue to be Delcamper or not.I just was upset.

About Delcampe Vs eBay - I have never sell on eBay but I know that there are insertion fees and I think the fees on eBay are higher so I prefer Delcampe.I am here since December 2001.I am a "small fish" - I have now about 7000 listed items and have sold about 2800 items so I can not imagine how much insertion fees I needed to pay on eBay if I sell there. From eBay I like only to buy.And I also have bought from you.My nick on eBay is ivo_sh .Maybe it is somewhere in your data base :) So my vote is for Delcampe. So I am proud to be member #1969 on Delcampe. On eBay I am since 2002 but still have about 35 ratings.

Maybe I could sell on eBay but in 2002 when I have registered on eBay I did not find the way to sell - it requires to register credit card and I didnt have any - here in Bulgaria was unsual to have credit card few years ago and also the PayPal was not available for Bulgaria. And now it is available since a year.

Best Wishes

I agree with you about ANEIR right now.

Her recent history with others is not good.

Contact Delcampe under Help & contact

Go to: Click on "My buyer does not answer."

The box below will pop up:
##############################################

"In this case, you can try to contact him/her with the Delcampe contact form.
You just need to click on the nickname and, when a new window opens, click on "contact". He/she will receive an email and a copy of this email will be sent automatically to his Delcampe inbox ("My Delcampe > My Messages").

Do not forget to check if your seller is not 'away' by reading his personal message or checking if there is an 'away' logo next to the nickname. This is probably wht your seller is not answering.

If you still have not received any answer, "contact us" and give us the item number in order for us to help you."

###############################################

CLICK on the highlighted link "contact us" and you will get Delcampe personally involved with your issue.

MORE TALK:

About ebay Vs Delcampe insertion fees and such;

On Ebay auction Your 7,000 items would cost $2400.00 USD (.35 cents each) to list for "EVERY" 7 day period of use.

That would be $9,600 if you wanted them to be listed on ebay for four weeks!

And then you will have to pay an additional ~8% commission fee on items sold.(paypal % fee is an additional 2.7%)

Over time that really adds up.

On Ebay store your items would cost ~$350.00 USD a month/+ ~8% commission on items sold. (paypal will take another 2.7% out of that transaction as well if your buyer opts to use that payment method)

Over the course of a year your 7,000 store items will cost you $4200.00 USD

So since Delcampe charges you only if your item sells, with no insertion fees for auction or fixed price format listings; it is easy to see why this site is growing at a steady rate.

When sellers can list cheaper, items will cost less to buyers in the long run as well.

Hello Stefano.

Your "More Talk" is most intetesting.
All you say about the lower cost of selling on Delcampe is quite right,
BUT I have found that I make many fewer sales, as compared to ebay.

To prove this - I am selling a number of sets of Modern reprints of Postcards of RUSSIAN ROYALTY - (Item number: 37336829) These are Priced to start quite low at Ģ5.00 a set of Fourteen.

In the time when I have sold twelve sets on ebay I have only sold three on Delcampe, AND all the delcampe sales were at the start price, whereas many of the ebay sales were bid up to much higher prices.

I agree that Delcampe is a great site, BUT there just do not seem to be enough buyers prepared to bid here.

Hi,

You have a valid point about the number of buyers with Delcampe Vs Ebay.

I would state ( my Opinion) that the Delcampe postcard collector is much more advanced than the Ebay postcard collector. They tend to buy better, more unusual items.

My best sales on Ebay, however; come from more modern card sales, sales of tourist areas (NYC, Chicago, RT 66, and the like) and /or home town views all eras.

For me my Delcampe sales come mostly from better, small town postcards, occupational views of small and/or defunct countries, and Pre 1900 view postcards. Almost 70% of my Delcampe sales are non USA cards at the moment.

On Ebay about 13% of my sales are non USA postcards.

With Ebay there is a large volume of traffic of "people" (Not collectors) who are always looking for something that interests them. That leads to many impulse sales there.

I get around the lack of "people" just looking around on the Delcampe site by posting my items there in the fixed Store format. This gets my items listed in Googlebase and Vola!, I get a lot of first time buyers on Delcampe. "People" with no feedback who found me on Google (17% of my buyers).

I also have brought a large amount of my past customers from Ebay to Delcampe as well. I send out 100-300 emails a week to past customers with my Delcampe store link and info about what I am listing there at the moment. I can't track that number as well, but it appears to be a significant part of my sales.

I also have 5,000 postcards parted on the American Website Playle "dot" com. They allow links in all their listing to any website you want. That gives me 5,000 more active hot links to my Delcampe store.

So, I would think, my sales on Delcampe are due more to personal marketing, than to the Delcampe website all by itself.

What I do think is needed, and I mean BADLY needed, is a thought out, regular advertising plan by Delcampe in the UK & USA market. They need to go to a USA stamp/postcard show there once every couple of years and setup (or have someone do it for them).

Ads need to be run, monthly in the premier stamp, coin & postcard publications about Delcampe.

Relying on sellers for your Advertising campaign works fine for a small "club" site...but Delcampe is far past that now. It is past time for a more professional approach to marketing in the English language markets by them

Hello Stefano.

Your conributions to the Forum are always sensible and well thought out......Thank you....... Of course Delcampe needs advertising as you suggest.

I am afraid that English language sellers are such a tiny part of the whole that Delcampe has little interest in pushing that small part of their organisation.

I feel, like you, that sales would really take off given the right help from the top

Very interesting post Stefano

Having just "found" Delcampe a few weeks ago, I am really surprised at how well it is going....I suppose I was blinkered into thinking Ebay way the "be all and end all" of selling....how untrue that was !

Being a newbie on here has opened my eyes, it is a lot user friendly on here, easier to use, friendly and.....it's been a long time since I have said this....it really is a pleasure to sell again after being brow beaten by that other site

I will still list a few on the other site and play along with telling my customers on that site to come across and take a look on here, which is what I have done when I sell items on there ....I email each and every one with a link to here and I also send a note when I post the item...so I think Delcampe WILL grow vastly just by word of mouth

I have been very surprised though as to how many of my Ebay customers have said that they have never even heard of Delcampe ??

So perhaps NOW is just the right time for Delcampe to push the boat out and do a bit of advertising....strike while the iron is hot...there are an awfull lot of fed up buyers and sellers on there !

The way it's going I can see that the majority of my listings will be on here and even less and less on Ebay....Ebay was good while the going was good, but now it has really become a bind to sell on there

I suppose the one downside of Delcampes future sucess might be that a lot of those deadbeat bidders AND sellers which cause trouble and who are on the other site, might....just might move across.....I only just hope that Delcampe will nip them in the bud and deal with them accordingly.....not like that other bunch

Karenswift13: To comment on your last point do not hold your breath on Delcampe dealing with Deadbeat Bidders and Sellers. As long as either type of member has one more positive than negative and/or is helping Delcampe's bottom line they are untouchable.Ebay monitors their site a 1000 times more strictly than Delcampe so that should tell you how loose things are here.
On the positive side with the no charge listing fees your material has a long shelf life and if you do get stung by a Deadbeat Bidder, Delcampe does seem to have a 100% no questions asked return policy on commissions charged. So on the whole a positive selling experience all be it slow and leisurely. Cheers! Jim

Hi Nanook99,

I can see where you get the opinion about deadbeat bidders on here Vs Ebay.

I do not, however; agree, that Ebay is 1000 times more strictly patrolled than Delcampe.

The major problem with Delcampe on the issue of Dead beat bidders is that their system does not state what to do about them in their help guide. If it did, their system would "catch" more of them.

It would be most useful if Delcampe posted a step by step process that one must go through to report Dead Beat bidders in clear steps.

Repeat : Their software will not catch such bidders unless that is done correctly.

On ebay you get three nonpaying "strikes" and you get banned for a while...most dead beat bidders who do that on purpose jump right onto a new ID and simply keep bidding ( I catch 2-3 such people a month on Ebay doing that)

Note: I do report such people to Ebay direct (Power seller phone). It still takes them over a month to re-ban such people in their system.

On Delcampe, a real person makes sure old Dead beat bidders do not resubscribe until their blocked status is resolved.

The deadbeat bidders on Delcampe are not untouchable, they appear to be improperly reported (Due to the process being so muddled and murkily explained in the help section).

Like You, I am also at a loss to understand what number/or % of Negative feedback gets one automatically blocked from the Delcampe sites.

A written explanation of this is also needed on the site.

The advantage of Ebay over Delcampe is manpower. They have 1000s of employees. Delcampe has... 10-15 I think.

The disadvantage of Ebay is their corporate mentality. Their process for removing erroneous data from one's record is tasking, lengthly and very unhelpful.

On Delcampe, I think a new system where a seller can block people with "x" number of neutral/negative feedbacks over a stated period of time would be useful.

Ebay has that , and I use it.

I also think that Delcampe needs to become more active in answering questions from posters on their forums and emails in a more timely manner.

Hopefully the recent (modest) fee increase will allow them to retain an English speaking/writing staff member devoted to the English forums and websites.

Delcampe is no longer a "club" sized web site and a more professional approach to customer inquires is sorely needed.

I won't leave Delcampe over this issue. I rather help them fix it. Sales, membership and activity on Delcampe are steadily increasing.

Customer support needs to follow that trend.

Hello,

Till when on Delcampe can exist such kind of accounts :

75% 6 x 3
50% 1 x 1
25% 0 x 0

And to see that such kind of account exist see that member " Aneir " :

Can you imagine such kind of member on eBay?!

I have sent him 5 times my invoice and no answer. The auction has finished on Thu 18th Oct 2007.And till today even no answer on my e-mail.

230 868 members on Delcampe - it is not only important to have a huge lot of members - I think the quality is better than the quantity.

Ivo / Bgpostcards

Delcampe suspended this bidder and the next day reinstated him , emails to Delcampe were unanswered . Check out Baxaico , 301 0% , 192 neutrals ,

Funny you should mention that buyer.

I am at the start of a bit of confusion/problem with that bidder myself.

Their mode of operation appears to be such:

I) They bid , they win an item, They mark the item paid and also leave you positive feedback within a day.

II) They then contact you about 7-9 days later and ask why you haven't sent the item(s) yet. One email per item won.

If you do a quick look at your list of items sold you see the item marked as sold, positive feedback left...without further checking you could be duped into thinking you have made a mistake and you might send the item right off to them.

I almost did that.

But I also match Moneybooker & paypal payments by email address to buyers. My verification of payment returned no match. So I am holding 4 items for that buyer.

Reading their previous feedbacks...this how they normally operate..except on numerous occasions they appear to have never paid for the item they marked as paid.

They do not respond to emails as well.

In the last week their overall feedback has dropped from 91% to 89%..and is still dropping.

Within seven days If I do not receive payment or response to my emails... I will add 4 more negative feedbacks to their profile.

This is the type of buyer I would like to have the option of excluding from my items. Anyone with 3 or more Neg/ and/or Neutral feedbacks in the last three months... I would rather not have them bid on my items. As well as anyone with under 94% positive feedbacks overall.

I am closely watching this bidder as I would think Delcampe would want them off of the site

Thanks for the heads up Scview
Delcampe should kick this buyer off NOW....AND I MEAN NOW !!!!!

There is a flaw in the system here and it should be the SELLER who should mark it "PAID" when they get the payment through or as soon as Paypal/Moneybookers payment has been sent

This buyer isn't confused, they know EXACTLY what they are doing and if you look at the feedback they leave you can see they leave retaliatory feedback when sellers leave bad feedback, ruining feedback for sellers with no care or remorse
Buyers like this can STAY on the other site and Delcampe must be seen to keeping it's site "clean", otherwise it will go down the same road as the "other" site which is in decline

IMHO

Hi Stefano,

Thank you for your detailed answer.
You have described the situation with this buyer in a same way how it happens to me too. Normally I do not suspect buyers, even they have a 99-98% of positive feedback rating, probably the 94% percent positive feedback is the border between risky and smooth transactions, as you have mentioned it.
This buyer is really strange with his acting method, I have never met such a bidder on online auction sites, just when I swapped collectibles with other collectors, there were some really strrange ''collectors'' working hardly on getting collectibles without sending anything for that.

Best regards,

Hello,

Till when on Delcampe can exist such kind of accounts :

Received
Ratings Members
100% 954 x 269
75% 6 x 3
50% 1 x 1
25% 0 x 0
0% 276 x 103
Neutral 32 x 16

And to see that such kind of account exist see that member " Aneir " :

Link (http)

0% from 103 members - and this member is still on Delcampe!

Hello,

Last month I had other nice case.A Delcampe bought from me 6-7 cards and I waited 20-30 days for any answer or payment and after some messages I finally gave him negative feedbacks.Few days after that I received a negative feedback from him which is :

" Sorry , if you change my feedback, I change you for the same. Do you want next 0 % feedbacks ? "

Here is the member :

Krupianik [76% (51x)]

Link (http)

2 days after that I have received 2nd bad rating with the same words :

" Sorry , if you change my feedback, I change you for the same. Do you want next 0 % feedbacks ? "

Soon I expect the others 0% ratings to me.

I wrote to Delcampe and explained the whole situation and I have received a nice copy/paste message that I need to use the dispute resolutions for this case.
So I will be glad to hear your opinions about that situation.
And why Delcampe can not remove my bad ratings and tells me to continue wasting my time with dispute resolutions? And what I can discuss with such kind of member? He clearly states in his feedbacks that if I do not remove his negative feedbacks he will give me bad ratings for all 6-7 auctions. Why such kind of 76% ratings member is still on Delcampe? Why I pay my Delcampe fees and my Gold Membership fee when Delcampe can not help me with such kind of simply problem and says that I need to start dispute resolutions and to continue wasting of my town?Havent I wasted enough time with that bad bidder as I waited a month for any answer or payment and wrote to him several messages ,as I place the auctions as "Unpaid items" to avoid Delcampe fee for unsold items ,as I restarted the sales..........

Best Wishes
